Wizards of the Coast has updated the System Reference Document (SRD) for Dungeons & Dragons by releasing SRD 5.2. WOTC's new SRD 5.2 is a document that provides designers and players with D&D rules that can be used when creating third-party 5E materials, and was officially released on April 22, 2025. As expected, the new SRD includes rules used to design content based on the 2024 5E rulebook (see “D&D 'Core Trio”). There are some differences between the 2014 5E ruleset and SRD 5.1, which covers SRD 5.2. Most of these changes are primarily paraphrases of game mechanics. However, in this document, the designer will add more whiplashes, monsters and equipment when creating material for the 2024 5E. There are some interesting highlights in this document. First, WOTC removed the names of characters and creatures specific to D&D IP. For example, many infamous decks have been renamed “mystical decks,” with references to Orcas being taken. Second, SRD also provides an errata for future core rulebooks. The SRD is updated regularly to allow creators to access the language of the current rules.
