Manga, comic books, video games, and current tabletop games. The team at Critical Role Productions, a entertainment company that grew from the web series “Critical Roils,” featuring Voice Actors who play Dungeons & Dragons, continues to expand their media footprint with their latest recruits, Coast games Gurus Churus Perkins and Jeremy Crawford. Perkins and Crawford, who have led the Dungeon & Dragons design team for decades, have literally helped them write books about the most popular role-playing games in history. Perkins was the creative director of Dungeon & Dragons, overseeing the direction of the story, and Crawford was the game director and overseeing the rules. Their departure from the game publisher Wizard of the Coast earlier this year was what fans wondered what the next move would be like. Now, news has been announced that they will be joining Crital Cloil's Darrington Press Game Division. They are two of the biggest names… It influenced the TTRPG and the games we played. -Travis Willingham on Perkins and Crawford, CEO of the Key Role, “I promised to stay at the Wizard until the 50th anniversary of D&D. “What set me off from retirement was the opportunity to work with Jeremy and some amazing people who play a key role in making a lasting and positive impact on the world.” “Chris and I talked for years about his retirement plan. “I love the game and the team, but 18 years is a long time. I was ready for a new adventure. The chapters we opened feel like I'm going back to work with Chris and I'm back in Southern California.” This has influenced TTRPGS and the games we played,” said Willingham, using the acronym for role-playing games in TableTop. “When we first got caught up in the wind where we were thinking of taking a break from where they were,” Willingham continued. When you look at the opportunity to bring in 15, 17 years of experience, pedigree, pipeline, timeline, management teams, and really look at everything from the grandfather system of everyone, it's always very interesting. The world,” Perkins said. “It was the opportunity to work with Jeremy and some amazing people that helped me out of retirement, and I was in a critical role for what has lasting and positively impacted the world.” “Chris and I have been friends with members of critical roles over the past decade. We have long admired their work and spirit,” Crawford said. “When they approached us about joining them, we were happy to say yes. Beyond the exclusive generation, tabletop games have become more popular with titles like Catan's Settlers (now Catan). To keep that rise, Perkins and Crawford believe that more people need to be involved in creating the game as well as playing. “First of all, I believe diversity has a strength,” Perkins and Crawford said in a joint email response to follow-up questions about their plans. “A diverse range of creators and diverse games helps to create an industry that feels more attractive to everyone. The more people we welcome into proverb tents, the more powerful the industry will become. Third, we hope that the industry will never lose the joy of play. Many of us have become game designers, game masters and players because of the sparks of joy we felt when we first tried role-playing games. Let's continue to incite that spark into a flame that fulfills everything we do with infectious pleasure.” So, are there already ideas brewed for Darlington and the duo? “Yeah, yes to heaven!” Perkins said. That's everything they say about it.
