A butler spills some tea, and rumors about the family in question seem to have been going on for years. Eerie tales of demon blood and whispers of slave trade waft through the aristocratic quarters. A little reconnaissance is performed, plans are carefully crafted, discussed, rehashed, considered, refined, and summarized. Of course, that quickly goes out the window once they actually have access to the premises. The ground appears to be guarded by guards (attention), dogs (planned), and werewolves (I never thought that would happen).
This causes a fierce battle on the first floor of the mansion. A guard is encountered and quickly dispatched by Dijin, but there appears to be some magical protection, and there is an encounter with a sorcerer (perhaps a house wizard?) that leaves some of the party badly damaged. They consume healing potions to advance and eventually reach the library. As the alarm sounds, the group barricades the door and looks for an exit other than breaking a window or jumping onto a lawn where guards, dogs, and werewolves roam.
What a twist! There is a trapdoor under the rug, and when it opens, the group descends. Sniffles buys time by throwing some fireball beads through the gap in the door and frying the beads that are trying to break through the barricade.
They hit the bottom of the ladder and began to move further away from the ladder. Several doors are involved and the hallway is completely rigged with traps, leaving Dijin severely injured. To hasten their progress, someone appears to have cast a cloud-kill spell on the ladder shaft, causing deadly vapor to spread over the area. Another route takes them to a private prison, where they kill the guards and free some prisoners. They proceed to investigate the newly discovered secret door. This will be difficult to open, and will eventually reveal a hallway beyond it. Placing one foot on the floor nearly ends Finger’s life, and the brave gnome is on the brink of death, but Veiga stabilizes him. The hallway is further explored, revealing another deadly trap, and then another, but eventually the group is able to interact with a large box, apparently chock-full of platinum coins.
At this time, werewolves attack, guards are reinforced, and more werewolves and guards appear. The battle becomes fierce and bloody. Diggin’s sturdy armor makes him nearly impossible to hit, but he compensates for this advantage by smashing two axes in quick succession. Bodies fall and the wounded groan before falling silent, but the group appears to have won a brief moment of respite. They bag as many coins as possible and dither in a hurry. Do you stay and loot more, or do you try to escape before the others show up?
Eventually they looted and entered a room filled with artwork and a pair of bronze boxes. They found a hand and a number of small brass sawn. They do everything they can to prepare to try and escape from the mansion. They send the invisible Fingers to scout, but he ends up being captured. In fact, they are all taken prisoner by Jedika Noor and the Inverted Pyramid guards who were staying at the manor house. There’s a “Shhh, let’s play together” moment before the party has a bag thrown over their heads and is bundled into a prison wagon, presumably on its way to the city jail.
