In the silence that follows Zaal’s fatal blow, the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps can be heard in the distance. The group spreads out and prepares. Fingers creates an illusion of a Rat Lord and sends it in the direction of the likely approach while the rest of the group prepare spells and missiles. The illusion works well enough that two of the running Ratbrutes slow to walking speed as they approach the statue. They realize their danger, just as Zaal’s sleep spell takes effect, and they die at the end of Kegdrain’s blade.
A quick search finds a dwarf’s bedroom. The dwarf there is absent, so they steal what they can. They peer into a ratbrute’s den (whoooa) and spot a large waterfall and a slippery cave beyond it. They turn back and enter what appears to be a large newly built chapel. The walls, floor and ceiling are covered in cultic symbols and in the center of the room is a large tomb. The tomb gives off a purplish-grey light and the group is understandably nervous. They pass the central part of the room and open a door on the other side. At the end of a long corridor is a room with a waterfall that, judging by the foul smell, is coming from somewhere in the sewers. There are also two terrifying looking creatures in the room. It’s unclear whether they are demons, devils or creatures of chaos, but the group retreats and attempts to pry the tomb open.
Determined to seize the high ground, Baige threw the gnome onto the lid, which began to open. From within emerged arms, a mouth, and eyes, in no particular order. The beast demanded praise and a sacrifice, but the group decided to kill it instead. They inflicted great damage on the beast, but suffered damage themselves in return. As a result, they were trapped in the abandoned dwarven bedroom for three more days. Tick-tock…tick-tock…tick-tock. With an army of barbarians approaching, the group was nowhere near figuring out where their captured leader was.
They emerge from their hiding place and go in the opposite direction from the way they first entered, finding another set of corridors and doors. They choose one at random, and a rubbery tentacle swiftly pounces, trying to tear it apart, blocking their progress. Defeating the tentacle, the dwarf and his companions move forward, climbing a small staircase and glancing open a curtain concealing the next room. They are now face to face with an armored Medusa. She is defeated, but not before Diggin becomes a statue. Now this poses a serious problem. Perhaps Veiga will have to take the front line. What to do with the short statue with the axe? A serious problem, to be sure, but while you ponder, you might as well look for treasure.
