New 2024 DND Class: Ranked from worst to best. Whether you're a new Dungeon & Dragons player who rolls up your first character or the biggest max of a veteran building your next campaign, one question is often the best: which DND class is actually the best? With the new 2024 rules for DND 5E officially made, the answer to this question has become even more cumbersome. That's exactly why we put together this list of all new DND 5E classes. Each class is ranked based on overall versatility, combat ability, and roles within the party. Of course, “best” is a subjective term in both life and dungeons and dragons, and what works in one group doesn't necessarily work in another group. Nothing is set on stones and can be discussed at any time for our pick. That being said, if you're looking for a solid breakdown of where each of the new 2024 classes shines and where they struggle, this list has you covered. 12. Details of the wild rank: DND 5e The main warriors who can lead their wrath into physical strength as a class with intense durability and impressive combat abilities, as a class with a thriving durability. Why we ranked it: There have been some major changes in the new 2024 Barbarians (including the ability to use rage in non-combat situations), but they are more problematic than other martial arts classes. Unleashing powerful rage attacks is fascinating, but it is also a bit limited as a combat tactic, and is not without its flaws. And while tuning how anger works is a step in the right direction, the fact remains that the 2024 wild bars are not as versatile as other classes when it comes to non-combat capabilities. That being said, the wild bars always have a place in DND 5E, but if you choose to play, you must do so because of the possibility of the story, not in-game features. 11. Illegal Class Details: Stealth, unning, modestly skilled DND 5e Rogue is often the party's go-to scout and trap detector. However, their most powerful feature is the sneak attack, which allows them to deal extra damage when enemies are distracted. Why we ranked it: In the new 2024 Rogue, we've seen some enhancements in combat (including more options for using weapon proficiency and sneak attacks), but the truth is that Rogue is still not the most ideal in combat. And although all parties can use fraud, the class only shines when sneaking, scouting, and looking for traps. It is a task that does not occur in all adventures and often does not involve the entire group. For this reason, the list is pretty low as this villain often spends a lot of his time in the shadows waiting for his turn in the spotlight. 10. Ranger Class Details: Wiles' Warriors, who combines martial arts with limited spellcasting abilities, DND 5e Ranger is a master of exploration and survival. It also has a variety of characteristics, including the ability to draw animal companions and track enemies. Why We Ranked It: When Wizards of the Coast unveiled the new 2024 Ranger, many players were disappointed. Thematically, they feel like the same old class we've seen over the years. This is a kind of fighter subclass essentially based on nature. When it comes to combat, the Rangers are also far less effective than other martial arts classes, and their magical abilities are not particularly strong (even when compared to other halfcasters). Moreover, the new rangers rely on the Hunter Mark Spell in too many ways. And repeat. Outside of combat, rangers can be slightly limited in certain situations, such as urban adventures. They're still fun to play, but if the coastal wizards want to be a little more creative, they can do more than that. 9. Fighter Details: Weapon Master and the Art of War, DND 5E Fighter is one of the most versatile classes when it comes to combat. They are also a typical martial arts class, with the ability to deal with it and deal substantial damage. Why we ranked it: The new 2024 fighter jets have seen some small changes, but in general, they have been doing their best since the earliest edition of DND: Fight Things. While weapon mastery and updated subclasses add some degree of complexity, the fact is that fighter jets are also one of the most complex classes (and therefore they are often considered somewhat bland by experienced players). That being said, if you're a new player trying to get a taste of DND combat, fighter jets might be a great option. 8. Bird Class Details: A jack of all trades that use magic, charm and inspiration to support allies and sabotage enemies, the DND 5E Bard is a versatile class with excellent social situations and a variety of flexible spellcasting options. Why did we rank it: players are split into quite a bit of new 2024 birds, some people have been significantly updated, others have found many of the same issues as the 2014 version. There's no denying that Birds are so much fun to play, but as a class they won this spot on our list. Plus, too many players tend to lean towards a strong version. If you decide to play the bard, our advice is to think outside the box in terms of both their build and story. 7. Magician Class Details: Wielding the power of natural arcane flowing through the veins, the DND 5E Magician guides the spell through pure will rather than studying. Their signature mechanic is metamagic, allowing you to customize how certain spells are cast. Why We Rank It: The New 2024 Magicians remain incredibly powerful and versatile in terms of spells that can be cast in combat, exploration, and social encounters. The only downside is the limited spelling pool, which hasn't increased in the 2014 version, but is not in the same league as the more powerful wizards. Playing a magician is a bit complicated for new players, especially in terms of juggling spells and managing the effects of metamagic. Still, magicians remain a great option if you are willing to jump into and manage their mechanics. 6. Warlock Class Details: Supernatural Spellcaster, who gains power from an agreement made up of otherworldly beings known as Patrons, can utilize unique calls and spells like the signature Eldrich Blast. Reasons for Ranking: There were some major changes to the new 2024 Warlock, including tweaking spell slots and calling more inclusions (there are some welcome changes in the 2014 version. However, their spell list is much smaller than the other casters, and often depends on the country trip in combat. But at the end of the day, the 2024 Warlock is a solid choice in terms of both the flavour of the story and its spellcasting ability. 5. Paladin rank details: Martial God Warriors, who blend the spellcasting given by Might and Gods, have been a popular class for many years. Characteristics of their signature include projecting God's Smite and a powerful aura that can protect allies and block enemies. Why we ranked it: Many fans were disappointed to see the new 2024 Paladin being essentially nerfed in terms of combat power. This is especially prominent regarding the new God's Smite, the shadow of the 2014 version. That being said, despite these changes, the Paladin is still an incredible damage dealer in combat, with a variety of spellcasting capabilities and the ability to heal both allies and themselves. The end result is one of the most versatile classes in DND 5E. 4. Monk Class Details: DND 5e Skilled in the Art of Unarmed Combat Monk is a powerful martial arts class that leverages a pool of focus (formerly known as KI points) to run such stunning enemies, eliminate missiles, and clean up impossible obstacles. Why we ranked it: Some fans feel that the new 2024 monks are a step back from the 2014 version, but in our minds, the class has seen a clear improvement. Their new martial arts die (now rising to D12). The updated grappling rules make them one of the more powerful martial arts classes. They also have a variety of other abilities that can be used for healing, exploration and stealth. In short, this monk is a great option for both new and experienced players, with a ton of versatility during play. 3. Druid Class Details: Spellcasters that utilize the power of nature to burn magic, DND 5E Druids have the ability to take wild shapes, a unique power that can also be converted into various animal shapes. Why we ranked it: Some argue that the new 2024 Druid Wild Shape is less powerful than the 2014 counterpart, but the new subclass offers a unique way to use the feature (for example, the new Circle of the Moon Druid allows you to cast spells in the form of an animal). Druids remain a versatile caster class, remaining in a wide range with a variety of spells that can heal, buff and hinder enemies. They can also deal with an incredible amount of damage (even at lower levels) and support the party in their own way when it comes to combat, exploration and social encounters. 2. Details of the Clergy Rank: DND 5E Clergy, a user of God's magic that draws power from the chosen God and its associated realm, has access to a wide range of spells that can help heal and support while hurting and delaying his enemies. Why we ranked it: The new 2024 Clergy has seen many improvements to the class, providing more power in terms of magic and combat (including new high-level features like heavy armor proficiency and Wish). In this sense, they remain the ultimate support class of DND 5E, with the magic that can rebuild the battlefield and the ability to crush several enemy skulls at close range if necessary. The class can be challenging for new players, but it's also a lot of fun and something that every DND fan should try at least once. 1. Wizard Class Details: Academic magic user who acquires secret abilities from careful research and memorization, DND 5E Wizard is one of the most iconic classes. It also scales very quickly and takes advantage of its power at a higher level that can level the entire enemy swarm. Why did you rank it: If there is one class that governs them all from a versatility perspective, it must be a new 2024 wizard. This is almost entirely due to the vast number of spells they have access to (which is far more than all casters). Ritual skilled abilities increase this number even further by casting spells as rituals rather than burning slots. The final result is a spell smolgas board that can be used in almost any situation. The downside is that the spell's scope is overwhelming, and wizards can challenge new and inexperienced players. However, if you're willing to work and crack spellbooks and player handbooks, the 2024 Wizard stands out as one of the most versatile and powerful classes in DND 5E. Cameron Nichols is a senior editor living in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been featured in his older brother since the early 90s, playing D&D since he cut his teeth in AD&D 2nd edition. Since then he's played almost every RPG and managed to get a nerd little mitz (including the strange goth stages that rocked vampires in the early 2000s: Masquerade is pretty stiff). The setting for his favorite D&D campaign was in forgotten realm, and his favorite character was a half-oak barbarian named Grug (unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
