The wizards make up almost half of the playtests for the new, mysterious subclasses, but don't worry. There's something a little for everyone. WOTC released another unearthed arcana yesterday, but there was not enough fanfare. Especially in the case of excavated arcanas packed with nine different subclasses. The wizard gets the most physical parts, but there are smaller ones for more classes than you think. However, the new Arcane subclass PlayTest has new options for fighter jets, monks, clergy, magicians and revised hexagons (four wizard options). New Playtest – A new era of WOTC changes is in the air of the coastal wizards. And there's nothing more visible than the setup laid out in the linked 11 minute summary video above. Todd Kenrek had a certain visual style that was missing from the new setup. Looking at the comments on the video, a considerable portion of them is like “already todd is missing.” But we're not here to talk about the changing staff at WOTC. I'm here to see the Arcane subclass. And there are nine in this playtest. Most of them return/update the versions of the subclasses introduced in the 5th edition, but there are some subclasses that don't have the 5E version. Side notes, they have to come up with a better name for the subclass of the magician. We know it's too late, but entering a magician magician only makes it strange enough to do that. The other seven subclasses are not unexpected subclasses. These are, honestly, subclasses that needed love since 5e. So it's great to see them get attention. Without ruining the pot in advance, we can already tell you that this investigation is a controversial subject. Especially after it's open next week? It's very fast. Almost worrying, research doesn't even have time to actually playtest things. And they close in just a few weeks. So far, there's one per month. This is not complaining as it has been a marked departure from the glacier trickle at WOTC over the past decade. I'm worried that playtests will be more than anything else to check the atmosphere. But that's the price you pay for a quick turnaround. Arcane Subclasses – It's good to see that not only spells are featured in the Arcane Subclasses PlayTest, as well as the new era of spell casters in WOTC. Some subclasses are completely different from the incarnation of 5E, so we'll dig deeper into each subclass over the next few days. For now, here is a quick overview of what you'll find: It starts with a fresh take on Arcana Domain Cleric. One of two “good” subclasses of Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Arcana Domain Cleric gets some updates focused on magic. Next is Arcane Archer, a fighter subclass that has struggled since it was released in all the guides of Zanasar. Thankfully, the designer of this iteration understood that you should use at least two of those that your subclass is all. I think this is still starting a fight. Tattooed warrior monk is a new take on monk k. This concept goes back to the 3.5 edition D&D, which is wild. All of this subclasses are about magic tattoos. This is the concept that D&D has once been right and has been struggling to find a way to get it right again ever since. In 5e, the magic tattoos were at most in the middle. And while 5.5e may hold back by that tradition, it will never instill hopes that are very short for the class, but look forward to a deeper dive. Meanwhile, more options are Ancestor Magic, offering magicians cool new tools and role-play options. Now your magical power is given to you by a very powerful ancestor. Those who exercised such a surprising thing, fragments of it have given you way, and now you have a magical spark that will guide your evil wizard's magical sparks, such as expressions of your power. You can make it what you want, but it feels to me an uncle. Hexblade Warlocks gets the second pass in Arcane Subclasses PlayTest. I saw the hexagon that was reconsidered about a month ago. This time it's round two. It seems to be much more focused on curses than before, but hey, that's how cookies crumble. I personally liked the previous version more, but there were promising course modifications that would give the next version hope. Next, there are four wizard subclasses that come back from the old 5E PHB: Enchantment, Conjul, Necromancer, Transmiter. They mainly do what you expect as long as you have access to some fog-like effects that you expect. Happy playtest!
