Best Faerûnian cities to start your D&D campaign

Overview Establish your campaign in a city like Elturel, which has a rich history and a plot hook. Corrupt Askatra offers opportunities for shady dealings. The library fortress Candlekeep is known for its wealth of knowledge. Part of the battle is getting the Dungeons and Dragons campaign into full swing, and the other half is finding a night that fits everyone's schedule. Even while performing rituals made of ore, the characters must somehow meet each other and begin their lives as adventurers. Related Best D&D Campaign Settings, Ranked Dungeons and Dragons has some of the best fantasy settings. We will rank and introduce the best ones. Establishing your campaign and party in one of Faerûn's many famous cities is a surefire way to increase your RP and drop in useful plot hooks to follow the main crux of your story. All of these cities offer different types of settings, themes, and atmospheres, and there's definitely one for everyone, no matter what type of game your DM is running. 7 Elturel Rich in History Every civilized place in Faerûn boasts a unique culture and history, and embodies vastly different ideals, corrupt or otherwise. Erturel itself has a rich history and is an important location in the descent into Avernus. Before the campaign, it was an important location in Faerûn, until in 1492 DR the entire city was teleported from the Material Plane to Avernus, the first location of the Nine Hells. However, this event was also preceded by the Undead Release in 1444 and the Spell Plague in 1385. So it took years to build a campaign in the history of Elturel, but where would it begin in the city itself? The DM would have to take the adventurers to that place when they're teleported to the Nine Hells. You can even re-season Avernus by being inside the city and tasking them with the duty of saving the city and returning it to the material world. 6 Azkatla Far from being a more civilized settlement The only city that rivals Luskan in its shady dealings, Askatla is deeply corrupt, with every faction and individual tenaciously pursuing the coin, acting in the following ways: Must do. If this were any other city, it would be under the law. But on the streets of Askatla, almost anything is possible, even brutal things like slavery. Only those who can protect themselves should set foot in this city. Related Dungeons & Dragons: The worst Forgotten Realms countries to live in No one, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast or not, should want to live in these Forgotten Realms countries. Fortunately, this is something most adventurers can do. Many D&D video games begin with the player character being captured in some way. So perhaps the adventurers are all captured by the city and must escape, or even take on the role of slave traders in a more evil-oriented campaign. . No matter what direction DM and players choose to take, Askatla is a city ripe for the start of great adventures. 5 Candelabra Stored within this stronghold are countless books of knowledge Most cities in Faerûn are made up of residences, markets, taverns, inns, and places of worship that serve the local population and those traveling to these places. Designed to meet all your needs. But Candlekeep is unique in this respect, and instead of being a place to knock back a tankard or two, adventurers will find the largest library adventurers have ever seen. Candlekeep is a bastion of knowledge, containing countless books and scrolls that can provide information for the Party's every mission and question. Therefore, this bastion of knowledge can be the perfect starting point for your adventure. Are they academics who have worked and lived here for years, or are they outsiders privileged to look inside this fountain of information? Either way, there are plenty of plot hooks here that you can use to pull you to the heart of your story. 4 Ruskan Scum and the Wretched Hive of Villainy There are usually criminal organizations in most civilized cities, and all shady and illegal transactions take place underground, away from the scrutiny of security guards. Luskan takes a much different approach, as all backroom deals are done openly, but that's to be expected when morally questionable drow mercenaries are running the show. But it's this roughness that makes Luskan such an attractive and lucrative city. Business is booming, even if much of it is corrupt. It's also a great start to your campaign as a budding adventurer, taking any job that's available. Usually, it involves degrading work such as raising chickens, or trade that is bordering on, if not outright illegal. But every group has to start somewhere, and Luskan could probably give them that all-important starting job. 3 Neverwinter Volo himself sings the city's praises Neverwinter is one of the most famous cities in the Forgotten Realms setting, appearing in many games, including the MMORPG and RPG series of the same name, NeverWinter Nights I will. It is well known for its many artisans who live here and do business with the people of the city, and it maintains good relations with the Lords' Alliance. Its thriving success and vibrant culture make it an ideal city to launch your campaign. Hooks may originate from within city limits or may be called to answer calls from beyond the walls. The city was once described by Volo himself as the most civilized city in all of Faerûn, so even if the campaign doesn't begin here, the party is sure to visit it at some point on their journey. 2 The city of Waterdeep Splendors attracts people from all walks of life There are few better places to launch an all-new campaign than in the glittering Northern Crown, a vast and successful metropolis. As one of the most culturally vibrant and powerful cities along the Sword Coast, adventurers can be either residents of the city or hopeful new arrivals. Related Great D&D Campaigns with Very Little Combat Dungeons & Dragons is known for its combat, but there are plenty of great campaigns that focus on other elements. Whether your DM is running a party in Dragon Heist or planning your own adventure, from political power struggles to dealings with criminal organizations, there's a lot going on in this urban powerhouse's beginnings. There are expectations and possibilities. 1 Baldur's Gate DMs can draw inspiration from games Thanks to the Baldur's Gate game series, this location has established itself as an iconic figure among fans, and new features within its legendary walls Introduce the player. Adventurers would be hard-pressed to find a place with more opportunities than Baldur's Gate, known as a halfway point to anywhere. Baldur's Gate is definitely the place where most newcomers go for companionship and coins. Even for campaigns starting at a higher level, Baldur's Gate can be a great starting city as it is one of the busiest cities in the Forgotten Realms and there is always something going on in one of its districts . And if you're a DM looking for some real inspiration, you can look to the eponymous game for inspiration. All of those games have great hooks that seamlessly translate into tabletop games.
