Explore the locations and legends of the magical world of Dungeons & Dragons with the WORLDS & REALMS Retrospective Book
Dungeons & Dragons was born in 1974. So we’re celebrating 50 incredible years of imagination and adventure. For the past 50 years, Dungeons & Dragons has immersed players in countless dimensions, settings, and realms, each with fascinating lore and beautiful artistic presentation. To celebrate (while also adding to) the many gorgeous and legendary worlds of Dungeons & Dragons, a brand new book by author Adam Lee is on our way. Worlds & Realms: Adventures from Greyhawk to Faerun and Beyond takes us on a deep journey into the art, history, and stories of many of D&D’s most popular locations. But…
The team behind the new D&D Dungeon Master’s Guide 2024 says that even though the last version was…well, supposed to be the gateway to running the game in one of the best tabletop RPGs, there was something undesirable about it. I know there are points left. This time, they came with a long hit list and a hell of a can-do attitude. “The biggest problem with DMG in 2014 was the organization and the fact that the necessary rules were scattered all over the book,” explains the senior. We spoke to D&D game designer James Wyatt about the new rulebook.…
Published October 23, 2024 Don’t make it easy for your enemies. Learn how characters find cover to avoid attacks in D&D 5e, and live for another day of adventure! Victor Adam Minges – Wizards of the Coast – Towering Titan What is a cover? Don’t expose yourself to the light of day when the enemy shoots an arrow at you. Learning the basics of cover will help your character avoid defeat in battle, as the greater the cover, the less likely the enemy will be to hit you. Read this article to find out how to strategically blend in or…
A butler spills some tea, and rumors about the family in question seem to have been going on for years. Eerie tales of demon blood and whispers of slave trade waft through the aristocratic quarters. A little reconnaissance is performed, plans are carefully crafted, discussed, rehashed, considered, refined, and summarized. Of course, that quickly goes out the window once they actually have access to the premises. The ground appears to be guarded by guards (attention), dogs (planned), and werewolves (I never thought that would happen). This causes a fierce battle on the first floor of the mansion. A guard is…
2024 Rules: Death Saves Although death saving throws have not changed in any way in the 2024 Core Rulebook, this article has been updated to reflect the new terminology and describe new aspects affecting death saving throws introduced in the 2024 Player’s Handbook. I did. What is a death save in 5e? Danger is common in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. Your character’s life is always in danger: the dragon’s fiery breath, dangerous traps, and falls from great heights. When a character reaches 0 hit points, they immediately fall unconscious. To determine if a character is beginning to approach…
Being an “opt-in” ruleset, the Bastion system in the 5.5E Dungeon Master’s Guide certainly seems well-detailed. Here’s what we know: The Bastion system was a big focus at last week’s Dungeon Master’s Guide premiere. It’s even weirder because the rules are “opt-in” according to various videos about it. But technically, Feats were an opt-in part of D&D 5E. And really, if you want to get existential, D&D is all about opt-in. No one is going to kick down your door and demand you use mandatory rules (which is said to be a crime). However, the important thing is that for…

The iconic Dungeons & Dragons RPG Planescape: Torment was a “B-Team” project that began life as three different games, including a 3D dungeon crawler
Now, I don’t have a fancy book to know what can change human nature, but there are certainly many factors that can change the nature of a game. In a retrospective feature in the upcoming PC Gamer print issue #390 (issue #402 for our friends across the pond), contributor Robert Zak explores the strange history of Planescape: Torment and the unlikely Interplay that made it happen. We dug into this by talking to members of the team. “As we were trying to make sense of it all, we realized there were three Planescape projects, each with about four people working…
100% backed by Rotten Tomatoes, this series shows why a Dungeons & Dragons TV show needs to happen
A series based on a popular online campaign is proving that a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV show needs to happen. Several adaptations and stories revolving around tabletop systems have recently arrived, with Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honor illustrating the dynamic potential of these projects. Paramount appears to have originally invested in the possibility, as they announced plans for a Dungeons & Dragons TV show shortly after the release of Honor Among Thieves. However, despite ordering the series, Paramount ultimately canceled its plans, leaving partner Hasboro to find a new studio willing to carry the project. Paramount has dismissed…
They followed the tunnel and found it was dug by scratching through the stone and earth. It was six feet wide and about twice as tall, indicating that a creature of some size had stirred the earth to create a passageway that extended eastward, under Old Town, and toward the spire. At some point, the passage will split, but the group will continue straight ahead. The passage splits again and the group moves on. Eventually they realized they had hit a dead end and started looking for hidden places…but found nothing. While they were searching, they heard another group approaching…
