The journey from the general's hideout is a bit sad. There are some stories of future vengeance and half-baked investigations into how they will have the church sponsor a tour of vengeance, but in the end they have a great throw, turning the magical mountain north, through the increasingly colder countryside. Luckily for the crew, they arrive near Davost near the middle of summer, so the temperatures are cooler, but not life-threatening.
Obviously – things get shrouded in snow here – and the wind seems strong. Although there are buildings in the small town, most structures' interiors have been excavated and descended into dozens of feet of soil. The town is in a lull and prepares for a fall caravan carrying fur, wood and ore.
The party wanders and heads to the Howling Tankers Tavern – reportedly suitable for traders and other foreigners. There, they eat, get in touch with a chef who contracts a fatal illness to a half-oak waitress (those thought to be sweet with their fingers) and recruits for the mission.
They travel north and investigate rumors of the self-styled master of the frost giant, who may set up a fortress to raid. If there are giants, they will be killed. Doing so may allow for a longer trek to frozen Iceland in order to pursue something bigger, but the chefs will remain tight about it. Once winter is actually set, time is extremely important when it becomes impossible to travel. Well, Tally Ho! In that case, and they go again.
The mount gains a certain distance and when the terrain gets rough, the flight moves much faster than anything else. Bayga's great portable cabin spelling is very good. The group enjoys the scenery and new locations until they find and track down frost giants.
Now invisible, they enter an old fortress, partially covered with ice and showing signs of renovation. They see several ogres cleaning tables in the large dining hall and see the frost giant appearing from the dorm room and stumble on security guard missions. They quietly enter the barracks room and kill the two residents in surprise, but that's not the easiest thing to do. The least damaged corpses are used to revive and lure security guards on duty into a silent kill zone where they are attacked by a poisonous dagger on their fingers. Now they are paying attention to the dining room, but residents are no longer visible. Some doors and at least one corridor are all areas that may be investigated.
