Metallic Dice Game Review – DungeonSolvers

Just two weeks ago, Adam from Metallic Dice Games contacted me about an affiliate deal with his company. He also sent me samples of various dice to see and review here.

By the way, each set included:

1d4
1d6
1d8
2d10 (1st percentile dice)
1d12
1d20

Metallic Dice Games is a family-owned and operated company located in Fort Wayne, Indiana that has been in business since 2013. We sell dice in a variety of materials and colors at affordable prices. That’s how they understand you, there’s a little something for everyone.

As you may know, I’ve been playing all my games virtually for quite some time. Therefore, I have never “understood” the dice craze at all. But after looking at those dice (and rolling them while distracted during a work meeting), I can now say I get it.

All packages include a set of four dice and a dice tray. The handmade dice come in a special metal carrying case.
Everything arrived well packaged. The handmade dice set came in a small metal carrying case.

As you can see from the sidebar, I’m a fan of their work. They also gave this site a cool coupon (DungeonSolvers10). If you want some new dice after reading my review, you can use them for 10% off your order.

This is definitely my favorite set. It looks beautiful too!

The Thousand Day Red set came in a foam insulated metal carrying case. I opened them first because of that special treatment. Even so, they are still my favorite set.

These dice are part of Metallic Dice Games’ handmade plastic dice set. At a regular price of $70, it’s not cheap, but considering both the quality of the craftsmanship and the materials used, it’s well worth the cost.

The edges of the dice are sharp and finely honed. The gold numbers stand out and match well with the purple flowers in the center of each die. It also looks beautiful.

I found the d8 to be more photogenic, but the d6 in this set is my favorite. It’s a little bigger than the d6s in other sets, so it was a lot of fun to roll.

It was great to see these under different lighting in my apartment.

The Stardust Galaxy set was made of acrylic and was the most delicate of the sets. At first glance, it looked like a standard set of blue and black dice, but when viewed under the various lighting surrounding the apartment, the shine of the acrylic material really stood out.

This is the most affordable set on the list, costing around $10. I think this is very affordable for them. In my limited experience, these feel more like a “standard” dice set. Honestly, you can’t go wrong buying a nice looking set of dice for $10.

The white numbers in this set are very easy to read without taking away from the unique color of the shiny blue dice.

The pearl in the center creates a mermaid atmosphere.

The pearl set is made of resin and has a sharper impression than the Stardust Galaxy set. The edges feel clearer.

There are many variations of pearl sets in the Metallic Dice game. All of these contain a small bead in the center of each die that uniquely fits into its shape. It looks cool too.

The set I got was a purple, teal, and white set that gave off a mermaid vibe. Unfortunately, even these can’t convince me to start my ocean adventure, as we’ve already chosen “Curse of Strahd” for our next campaign.

The dies themselves are all transparent, allowing an unobstructed view of the pearl’s center. The white numbers match the set and are easy to read.

This set and all other pearl resin sets are $16. I think the price for this set is solid because the resin feels like a higher quality material. Also, an additional feature of pearls is their evil and cool beauty. I’m a big fan of the teal and copper variations on this site.

black metal dice. Numbers and accents are made of copper.black metal dice. Numbers and accents are made of copper.
I never knew the appeal of metal dice, but I spent half my work meetings rolling them. I understand now.

If it weren’t for the “Thousand Day Red” set, these beautiful bastards would be my favorites. It’s so much fun to roll. They feel heavy and make a satisfying thud when they hit the center of the dice tray. I can’t wait to get up on a physical table and flex with these someday.

Black and copper are a tried-and-true color combination and work beautifully with this set. Plus, it matches the dice tray they sent me, so MDG gets some bonus points for that move. Some sets use red enamel instead of black.

Metal dice are not cheap to manufacture. It’s no surprise that these are on the pricing side. But at $40, it’s a pretty good deal. Especially compared to other metal dice sets I’ve seen online and at cons. You can also purchase each die in the set for $6 each.

Overall, this is a great set for anyone looking for metal dice.

It took me 5 seconds to press all the buttons and set up this dice tray.

Metal Dice Games also sent me a dice tray. The tray can be packed completely flat by undoing all the buttons on the tray, as shown at the top of this article. It’s convenient to carry in your backpack or bag if you host your game outside the home.

The inside of the tray is made of black velvet fabric, which is soft to the touch. The outside of the tray is made of black leather with metal buttons on each corner for setup/disassembly.

This material does a great job of cushioning the impact of the dice on the table, as well as silencing the sounds generated from the impact. Especially regarding the set of metal dice I’ve been playing with all week.

At $16, this tray is a great option considering its price range. It is large enough to be used as a personal dice tray or as a shared dice tray in the center of the table. The tray is portable yet effective at its function.

conclusion

Overall, the products I received from Metallic Dice Games were of high quality and well worth their respective price points. I’m itching to have an excuse to use all of this in a game in the future.

I really enjoyed learning about the different materials the dice are made from. I’m a total novice when it comes to dice, so it was interesting to see and feel the differences between, for example, the acrylic Stardust Galaxy and the resin pearl set.

As someone who doesn’t understand the “dice boom” at all, my opinion is wavering. You’ll find that I choose sets based on the campaign I’m running and the character I’m playing. It’s a fun aesthetic when playing directly.

Please check it out! It’s always great to support small businesses, especially when they produce quality products like this one.
