Hugh Grant talks about what went wrong with the movie ‘Dungeons & Dragons’

Despite being branded as one of the greatest role-playing games of all time, boasting an all-star ensemble cast, and currently finding success on streaming, Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honor is a game that’s far from the first 10. It wasn’t a billion dollar blockbuster series. Paramount Pictures believed the hit movie would be in theaters. Hugh Grant, who plays the film’s second villain, Forge Fitzwilliam, believes he finally knows why. In addition to Grant, the film also stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and RegĂ©-Jean Page, making it a cast that is almost certain to be a box office success. However, Hugh Grant told The Hollywood Reporter that the market research team should have done more analysis on whether audiences really wanted the movie in the first place. Grant said he loved Honor Among Thieves and called it a “very good movie.” But while Dungeons & Dragons fans may have been excited about the movie, Grant believes general audiences weren’t interested enough before the movie was released. He said: “Why didn’t anyone do any market research before? I think that was a mistake. People basically just thought they didn’t want to see a movie about this game. Why did no one do any market research? Didn’t you ask the public questions?” The ending of Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honor raises the possibility that the burly group of adventurers will return for a second campaign. Most of the cast has expressed interest in reuniting for a second movie, but given the box office success of the original, it could be a long wait. Getting all the players together seems to be just as much of a problem for big-name Hollywood players as it is for regular D&D players. ‘Dungeons & Dragons 2’ could still happen ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves’ wasn’t a complete disaster at the box office. The film grossed $208 million internationally, meaning it was technically a profit. However, box office results shattered expectations for the franchise. The sad thing is that the studio originally had some big plans for a potential franchise. As with any obvious sequel, a live-action series was ordered by Paramount+ before the film was released in theaters. However, it was confirmed earlier this year that Paramount+ had canceled the order. The show isn’t completely dead, as another distribution company may take over the rights to the show. However, nothing has been confirmed. Much like the live-action series, many fans thought the second movie was a pipe dream considering the box office success of the original. However, according to Chris Pine, there’s always a chance you’ll roll a 20 naturally. While the chances of a sequel are slim (this would be a two-dice joke), Pine believes Hasbro will make a second movie in the future, which could make it even more likely. It was a critical hit (felt forced). “I think Hasbro owns the rights to it, so I think it’s very likely they’ll make another one. I think there’s a good chance, and if they have the economics to make it happen,” Pine said. If they can find a way to do it, I think they’ll do it.”For now, Honor Among fans are sitting around creating countless character sheets that will never actually be used in the game. You have to be satisfied that Thieves is a one-shot adventure. Meanwhile, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves enjoyed a large audience on its permanent streaming home, Paramount+.
