How to be the first fan to open a new player’s handbook and earn a USPS stamp

RENTON, WA – July 18, 2024 – This year is a landmark one for Dungeons & Dragons. Following the critically acclaimed film Dungeons & Dragons: Master of Thieves and the hit video game Baldur’s Gate 3, Dungeons & Dragons celebrates 50 years of the world’s greatest role-playing game. More than 64 million Dungeons & Dragons fans love to roll the dice, slay monsters, and imagine themselves as the epic heroes they know and love. This year at Gen Con 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dungeons & Dragons will unveil the 2024 Player’s Handbook, making Dungeons & Dragons more accessible than ever before. Wizards will bring 3,000 freshly printed copies of the 2024 Player’s Handbook to Gen Con 2024. Each handbook will feature the 50th anniversary logo printed in gold foil and a commemorative “Gen Con 2024” bookplate, making them even more exclusive and differentiating them from other first editions.

“The energy at Gen Con is always at an all-time high, and being able to get the freshly printed 2024 Player’s Handbook directly into players’ hands on the convention floor is truly special,” said Jess Lanzillo, vice president of D&D franchise and product at Wizards of the Coast. “We can’t wait to see how excited our fans are as they dive into the possibilities this handbook holds!”

The Player’s Handbook will be available worldwide on September 17, 2024, and fans can pre-order the D&D Beyond digital edition or bundle now to receive bonus character sheets: 10 frames, 5 backgrounds, and a set of 12 digital dice (one per class).

Pre-ordering the Core Rulebook Bundle now on the D&D Beyond Marketplace will also get you the Dragons of D&D Digital Art Book, D&D BEYOND Gold Digital Dice set, and a 50th Anniversary Digital Gold Dragon Mini in the upcoming 3D Sandbox. Fans will find out how to sign up for the closed beta at Gen Con.

How to purchase the 2024 Player Handbook for the first time

Gen Con attendees will be the first fans to purchase the 2024 Player’s Handbook. Here’s how to buy one:

Where to buy

The 2024 Player’s Handbook will be for sale in the Northwest Concourse at Lucas Oil Stadium, a shared sales area with USPS D&D stamps.

Release date

August 1: 3pm – 6pm EDT

August 2nd/3rd/4th: 9am-12pm EDT

price

The 2024 Player’s Handbook is priced at $49.99 (plus tax) and is available by credit card only (Discover, Mastercard, Visa).

At 7:00 AM EDT on each sale date, tickets to reserve your purchase opportunity will be released as an event in the Gen Con event ticketing system. The event will be listed as a free ticket and titled “D&D 2024 Player’s Handbook Early Release Sale.” Gen Con attendees may claim one digital ticket for that day, subject to availability. The digital ticket will act as purchase access for that day only.

Once you have your digital ticket, please come to the ticket sales location during the sales hours on that day. No tickets will be sold outside of these hours. You must be in line before the sales hours end to guarantee your purchase on the day.

Rules and Restrictions

Limited to one digital ticket per person per day. Upon redemption, you may be issued a wristband while in line to indicate you have checked in your purchase, eliminating the need to present a digital ticket. No sales to non-ticket holders (i.e. “walk-ups”). Only one book per redeemed ticket and all sales are final.

Official D&D USPS Stamp Announcement: First Postcard with Tiamat Stamp Sent

(Or a Purple Worm, or a Green Dragon, or…)!

The Postal Service will unveil the (10) Dungeons & Dragons stamps at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10 a.m. EDT. Stamp art director Greg Breeding, Dungeons & Dragons art heads Josh Herman, Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins will be available for signing immediately following the brief unveiling ceremony on Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.

Retail sales and postmarking of stamps will take place in the West Concourse of Lucas Oil Stadium each day of the tournament. This is a ticketless sale, so it will be first come, first served after the unveiling ceremony.

Watch D&D Live

On Saturday at Gen Con 2024, the Indiana Roof Ballroom will host a live game where you can see D&D in action. It will feature a cast of D&D superstars whose identities will remain a secret until the day of the event. They’ll either take to the stage and blow your mind. Or they’ll roll for greatness in a natural roll. It’ll definitely be one of two. All 500 tickets for the event have already been reserved, but like so many great D&D adventures, millions of fans will be able to experience this inspiring story when the game is posted to the D&D YouTube the following week.
