You can see me now, but soon you will not see me.

Unraveling the mystery of the multifaceted mask
Have you ever found yourself in a tight spot and needed to blend in with a crowd or take on a new personality in the blink of an eye? Look no further than the Sorcerer’s Illusion spell “Many-Faced Mask.” This spell is a staple in any cunning magician’s arsenal, offering countless possibilities for those looking to deceive others.
What does Mask of Many Faces do?
Warlocks have a unique class feature called “Invocations” that can be taken starting at level 2. These Invocations give Warlocks mystical abilities like the “Mask of Many Faces.”
Multifaceted Mask
You can cast disguise spells at will without expending a spell slot.
Disguise is a solid low-level infiltration spell. Simply put, it allows you to change your appearance, including your clothes, armor, weapons, and other possessions. You can change your height within a foot range, appear thin, normal, fat, or adjust your body type within certain ranges.
One of the most interesting things about disguise is that it doesn’t require concentration, which allows you to use other spells in conjunction with disguise, which is useful if you want to communicate telepathically with members of your party or charm others.
Don’t assume your disguise will be completely flawless: when donning a new look, keep in mind that casting a disguise requires vocal and physical components, potentially exposing your occult subterfuge to keen observers.
The illusion also does not withstand physical examination: objects can pass through the altered item, and physical contact may reveal inconsistencies.Creatures can use an action to examine your disguise and see through the illusion by making an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC.
The Many-Faced Mask vs. the Changeling Race
For those torn between the many-faceted masked Warlock and the inherent shape-shifting abilities of the Changeling race, the choice may not be as simple as it seems.
Changelings boast an innate ability to shapeshift, requiring no specific feats or classes, but they cannot change their clothing or hide the equipment they carry.
However, the changeling remains in that form until the effect ends or they die. This is an advantage over the Mask of Many Faces, which only lasts for an hour at a time, can be dispelled, and can be seen through by creatures who can see through illusions, such as those with truesight.
Multifaceted masks and the feat of actors
Characters leaning towards summoning the Many-Faced Mask will definitely want to consider the Actor feat, which grants a +1 to Charisma and allows them to imitate any speech or sound they have studied for at least 1 minute.
This combo allows you to mimic the speech and voice of others while also mimicking their appearance, making it the perfect deception, and if you use Mask of Many Faces frequently, you’ll have advantage on Deception and Acting checks when trying to pretend to be someone you’re not.
Built around a multifaceted mask
If you’re looking to create a Deception-based character with Mission Impossible level infiltration capabilities, the Mask of Many Faces is one of the best ways to go about it. Here are some things to consider when creating a multi-faceted character:
Eldritch Master Feat: A 2nd level warlock can easily get access to Mask of Many Faces, but if your character build doesn’t require warlock levels, you can use the Eldritch Master feat to get Evocation. If you choose the subhuman race, you can also take this feat at 1st level. Note that this only works with spellcasting builds. The ability to cast spells or use pact magic are prerequisites for Eldritch Master. Expertise: Whether you multiclass to get Mask of Many Faces or use Eldritch Master, bards and rogues are especially well suited to infiltration builds, as their expertise feature allows them to double their proficiency bonus in selected skills, such as Deception and Acting. Trustworthy Talent and Deft Speech: Certain rogue and bard abilities allow you to have a higher baseline for skill checks. At 11th level, rogues gain the Trustworthy Talent, which allows them to treat any rolls they are proficient in that are less than 9 as 10. Similarly, College of Eloquence bards gain Silver Tongue at 3rd level, which has the same effect on Persuasion and Deception checks. Swashbuckler: Swashbuckler rogues can’t get Eldritch Mastery, but their Charisma ability-using Panache and Rakish Audacity features make them a perfect multiclass with a Mask of Many Faces warlock. Friend Cantrip: A great low-level combo with Mask of Many Faces is the Friend Cantrip. This fascination cantrip has a major drawback in that the target knows they’ve been charmed after the spell ends. However, when combined with Mask of Many Faces’ Disguise Self, you might be able to trick the target into thinking the charm attempt was made by someone else.
