10 non-d&d characters that can be made with legends in Mist RPG

Warriors, Wizards, Priests, Thieves… Anyone who has played dungeon and dragon style RPGs will look at these character classes and compose and limit what role players can create. The legendary son of Orc's new fantasy role-playing game can take a different approach to character construction using rules that focus more on explanation than bonuses, allowing players to create doctors, blacksmiths, apple pickers and other fantasy heroes that don't fit D&D molds.

Check out the list below for ideas about the characters that shine brightly in the legend of the Mist Campaign.

Origin of RPG Character Classes

The original dungeon and dragons only had two classes: “Fighting Man” equipped with weapons and armor, and “Magic User” casting spells. Other iconic classes in D&D occurred during early play tests when gamers had concepts that didn't fit existing rules. For example, the clergy appears to have come from a player who wanted to play a vampire hunter.

How the Legend of the Mist makes character creation flexible

At first glance, Orc's new role-playing game son completely rejects the class of D&D characters. At the same time, the legend of Mist's description-centric Mist Engine Haken returns to the wild creativity of first-generation role-playing games, providing players' theme kits and gameplay rules to create fun, balanced new character classes for play.

for example:

1. doctor

In theory, the fantasy world of D&D campaigns should be full of herbalists, bone setters and surgeons. But why do D&D style adventure parties visit villager healers when there are priests who can heal wounds with holy magic?

By default, magic is unusual and special in the legendary game of mist, and the LITM core book is full of theme kits such as “Alchemy and Herbs” and “Talent Doctor.”

2. Blacksmith

Outside of the fun cleric subclass known as Forge's Domain, the D&D 5th Edition has little mechanical support for the classic archetype of fantasy blacksmiths, creating useful tools with iron, sweat and forge frames.

In contrast, the legend of the Mist core rulebook offers players a “sweaty Smith” template, allowing them to play the heroic village blacksmith outside the gate. This template is a collection of branded theme kits such as “Smith”, “Strong Cow”, and “Heirloom longsword”.

3. leader

“Warlord” in D&D 4th Edition was my favourite class with gamers keen to play strategists who lead their teams to victory with great tactical commands. At the same time, the abilities of this class were not comprehensive for all types of leaders and commanders.

Enter a collection of legends and their “Leadership” themes in the mist. This covers the archetypes from the proud courtier to the hope of the fate of the realm. Mix these themes to create a leader PC, from the Guard captain to the mayor of your local town.

4. The spirit of nature

The default assumption for D&D and other fantasy RPGs is that the player characters are human-like. Even if they are elves, half dragons, or tale mushrooms, the average role-playing game PC is still walking on two legs, worried about eating and drinking, and living on familiar moral standards.

Legend in the Mist, a folklore-inspired role-playing game, explicitly encourages characters that players are modeled after fairy tale creatures. The core book itself contains templates for creatures such as “sick-headed home hobs” and “the beauty of the river.” It's a spirit with a creepy magic and an alien worldview.

5. Dragon

It may be called Dungeons & Dragons, but D&D and RPGs generally do not allow gamers to role-play as dragons. After all, dragons are powerful and terrifying beings, and true dragon PCs will destroy the balance and tactical combat focus of most RPGs.

In Legend in the Mist, Dragon is fully executable as a PC. This is thanks to gameplay rules that make the monster theme both blessing or curse depending on the situation. In addition to the “Resplundent Dragon” template, Mist's Core Book's Legend also has pre-crafted characters with concepts such as “Dread Vampire” and “God of the Forest.”

6. cooking

Most fantasy RPGs have the perks of delicious, healthy foods shine. The loving description of meals and hero feasts are some of the most iconic scenes in the classic fantasy story.

Enter your cook or chef: There are detailed rules for camping/rest and detailed rules for fun, cooking-centric theme kits such as “good cooks”.

7. trader

Trade is a big part of a dungeon crawling RPG like D&D. Adventure parties exchange loot for better equipment, hugging rings and more for lower prices. At the same time, the iconic RPG character class fits the archetype of traders, who are experts selling products, transports goods and sniffs business opportunities.

Roleplayers who want to portray merchants will love legends with Mist's “veteran trader” theme kit. This gives players access to skills centered around product valuation, price reductions and extracting wealth reserves.

8. Beaver Kin

Role-playing games like D&D are full of wizards, elves, dragons and other magical people. But the beaver people talking huge? It's not a chance.

Do you want to play a Bieber guy? “Mist In The Mist Legend is a role-playing game of choice thanks to the “Beaver Kin” theme kit, full of “powerful tails”, “natural builders”, “terrifying bites”, and essentially everything you need to achieve Beaver fantasies.

9. Stage Magician

In magical fantasy RPGS, magician characters on stage often come across meaninglessly. In a world full of wizards who can burn people with their brains, what is the point of a magician counting CADs and pulling coins from their ears?

Mist's legend of a simple fantasy setting, a world where magic is unusual and “Prestidigitation” is not a cantrip makes the magician of “Magic Tricks” more viable. By assemble themes from core books such as “Acrobatic Agility”, “Cheerful Entertainer”, and “Three of Hands” players can spoof charismatic and entertaining magic.

Apple Picker

10. Apple Picker

“Apple Picker” has many reasons for the son of Oak's promotional content. This is a realistic character archetype that shows off the setting of the legendary Mist's simple fantasy and drives the idea that PCs of humble origins are fun to play.

Pregan's character sheet theme for Apple Picker – “Rascal”, “Ravenhome”, “Scrappy”, “Bushel of Apples” – – Drawing lots of trick tips, apple bags, food and throw bags, and growing and calm rooms.

The above concepts only damage the surface when it comes to characters that players can create in legend in the mist. Get the core book here and set up an RPG campaign where you can make fantasy heroes come true (if players want, they can be classic D&D style warriors, wizards, priests, or even thieves).

Check out Son on the Oak website. Find out more about the legend of the mist, released on August 13th, 2025.
